At Jamk we use the external user’s so called “UFO accounts” for persons whose information is not maintained in the HR information system, but who have some kind of internship/employment relationship with Jamk. These accounts always have a staff representative as responsible contact person. Students of some other organization, do not use UFO accounts.
For security reasons, strong verification (MFA) is required when logging in to most of Jamk’s information systems, and for this reason UFO accounts are also updated to more modern ones. With this change, a mailbox with the suffix @external.jamk.fi will be created for all UFO accounts. At the same time, login name of these accounts changes to format firstname.surname@external.jamk.fi.
If user had a Jamk mailbox already, the old address of it will remain as a secondary address, but it cannot be used when logging in.
An example of the current situation:
The external UFO user Taavi Testaaja logs into Moodle with his own short username and password. Taavi writes his ID in the form EXT-TESTTA.
Situation after 12 December 2022:
The external UFO user Taavi Testaaja logs into Moodle with his own username and password. Taavi writes his username using format taavi.testaaja@external.jamk.fi. Taavi is also required to use strong verification. Taavi doesn’t want to actively monitor his Jamk mailbox, so he configures forwarding to his own external Gmail mailbox (or whatever mailbox he wants).
