At JAMK we’ve been using Skype (Skype for Business) as a chat and web conferencing tool for almost 10 years. Microsoft has announced that Skype will be replaced by the newer and much more diverse Teams and that organizations should switch to using it as soon as possible.
Teams has been available for a long time alongside Skype, but official transition to Teams will take place on JAMK on Monday, 6.1.2020. After that, all Skype messages from external users will be routed to Teams and Skype will be required only for traditional Skype meetings.
Teams includes all instant messaging features that Skype has and much more. Teams is, in a way, becoming a full-time user interface for work. Teams will be a place for discussions, web meetings, team workspaces and files. With Teams, you can collaborate effectively in one place.
The major difference during the transition is that with Teams it is not possible to participate in Skype traditional conferences or vice versa. This is a small challenge during transition, but gradually all organizations will migrate to Teams, which will eliminate this problem.
Teams application will be installed automatically to all JAMK workstations starting from week 40. Teams client is also available to mobile devices from application store. We will produce detailed instructions as needed.
